  • Sustainable Aquaculture

This report aims at showing that the countries of the SSTC-ADFS partnership initiative can benefit from SSC on aquaculture. Some countries such as Turkey and Hungary have the potential to act as providers of technology and financial assistance. Others are clear regional leaders in the field of aquaculture such as Uzbekistan in Central Asia or Tunisia among the Maghreb countries, whose applied solutions, in view of their significant progress made in aquaculture development, may be of significant interest for others – mostly those of the same region, but also for other regions.

  • Rural Tourism

The aim of this report is to support the knowledge exchange corridor on rural tourism that was established within the SSTC-ADFS partnership initiative by gradually putting into practice, scaling up and replicating successful solutions for rural poverty alleviation. According to the World Bank, the number of extremely poor pastoralists and agropastoralists can range from 35 million to 90 million. The largest number of pastoralists (more than 40 per cent) live in sub-Saharan Africa, while 25 per cent live in the Middle East and North Africa, 16 per cent in East Asia, 8 per cent in South Asia, and 4 per cent each in Latin America and in Europe and Central Asia.

It introduces best practices in terms of cost-effectiveness, replicability, sustainability and the impact on local communities, women and youth. To this end, a desk study was carried out including on-line available databases of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, including the partnership initiative on South-South and Triangular Cooperation for Agricultural Development and Enhanced Food Security (SSTC-ADFS), and other available data sources, such as interviews with relevant stakeholders and enhanced knowledge exchange.
