In the context of Hungary, smallholder farmers, whether individual or integrated to a co-operative, do not have the time and resources for learning quality schemes and elaborate specific and detailed administration to prepare for external inspections. As a consequence, the overwhelming majority of them is using the services of private extension services for preparation. In situations where the producers are not aware what quality schemes or farm assurance, mean they can not assess their capability of compliance, nor the magnitude of assistance they need. Thus the information presented will help Hungarian farmers meet the requirements to enter premium food markets and strengthen the smallholders’ position among other stakeholders in the food chain.
